Where everybody knows your job. Or, online communities for meeting and event pros.

Do you ever need your swing pushed and there’s not another event/meeting wonk in sight? Thanks to the internets, you’re never alone. A kindred spirit is out there, you just need to know where to look. While we’d like you to come visit the Digital Blue blog first, here are a few worthy friends out in cyberspace where you can find some really good information and insight:

  • Meetings Industry Megasite is a web portal for meeting professionals with tons of information including news, articles, destination information and a marketplace featuring hot deals on meeting packages all over the world. It also features the MI Soapbox, a blog that features some very cool perspectives, including this bit about about the experience of a being a woman event attendee in Dubai.
  • Meetings Focus has lots of resources including a Hot Deals page with group rate specials and planner’s picks by city for everything from caterers to hotel views to local team building activities.
  • BizBash is a slick directory that covers the New York, Los Angeles, Washington, Florida and Toronto markets. There is some very brief event coverage, but the site is geared mostly towards funneling you to supplier sites.
  • The Hospitality, Travel and Event Channel on Podango features podcasts produced for and by meeting planners. I just listened to a recent PlanIt Podcast where the hosts and guest spoke about event trends in Latin America. Check out David Martin’s blog to see the line-up of past shows and guests.
  • MeetingsRadio speaks for itself. Podcast topics include Event ROI (2 parts), Contract Chaos, Marriott Consolidated Commissions and Super Site Selections.
  • MPI has launched a new Web 2.0-ish site that creates a dashboard for members access the Meetings Wiki, member and leadership-penned blogs as well as news, planning tools and all the other educational goodies. Only problem I have with it is that the blogs are off-limits to the general public. What fun is that?

Am I missing anything? Please drop a line in the comments section if you have another great resource to add to this list!
